  • Welcome | Port Washington, Ohio

Founded 1827 A Message from the Mayor The Village of Port Washington’s Council and Village Employees continue to work together for the improvement of the village and care of its citizens. The Village government works together with Salem Township Trustees, the Delaware Valley Fire District, Tri-County Ambulance Service, and the Union Cemetery Board. Port Washington is home to the Indian Valley School District’s Elementary School, which is an excellent facility for our children to get their start in life’s education. Our local businesses consist of Bates Metal Products, which has been in the village since 1957, and Tony Mart and garage; providing convenience store products and auto repair for the surrounding area. The Village also has Designer Stone, dealing in stone countertops and other stone products. The Village is mindful of our youth, as we have two Little League fields; one for T-Ball and Coach Pitch, and one for Little League older kids, which is part of the Belden Village Park, including picnic shelters and play-ground equipment. The Village’s Delaware Valley Fire District is an excellent fire department. The firemen provide a great deal of activity for the Village; such as, morning breakfasts once a month, BBQ chicken meals for Memorial Day, candy for Halloween, and Santa Claus for Christmas. The Village Memorial Day service honors each and every veteran. The service consists of naming every Veteran individually, the service they were in, and any special unit they want recognized. The local 4-H Clubs and Indian Valley High School Band add to the service honoring our Veterans. After the service there is a parade from the Union Cemetery to the Village Historical Ole Town Hall, with Veterans riding on tractor-wagons, children on bikes, and an assembly of antique tractors. All Veterans are provided with a free BBQ chicken meal in honor of their service. We have a wonderful Historical Society and museum which provides the history of the Village of Port Washington during the Erie Canal Days. The landmark First Ohio Road linked the Village of Port Washington to Millersburg, Ohio. This road was used to bring produce from northern farmers to be shipped along the canal on canal boats. Our Village was founded in 1827, and is a great village to live in and raise a family. Everyone is known to each other, and willing to help their neighbor. We invite you to come to our Village, come to our Memorial Day Services and activities, and meet our small-town citizens. Thomas J. Gardner Mayor, Port Washington, OH
